 Crime &amp; Investigation Network®</a> wanted a stand out online campaign to drive awareness and viewer numbers forthe new series of <a title="Visit Snapped: Women who kill" href="http://www.crimeandinvestigation.co.uk/shows/snapped-women-who-kill.html" target="_blank">Snapped: Women who kill</a> as well as helping to increase social media followers for the channel’s <a title="Visit Crime &amp; Investigation Network on Facebook" href="http://www.facebook.com/CrimeInvestigationUK" target="_blank">Facebook page</a>. We delivered a deliciously dark campaign rich with innovation and a seriously fun Facebook app that helped double follower numbers in less than a month.</p>
<p>‘What Drives a woman to murder?’ was the question we asked the audience. ‘Snapped: Women who kill’ was the flagship show for autumn for Crime &amp; Investigation Network® and they wanted an online campaign that supported and strengthened the offline and TV activity, with a particular focus on social media to help drive awareness and engagement levels with the show and the Crime &amp; Investigation Network® brand.</p>
<p><strong>Like a hot knife through&#8230;</strong><br />
In a highly congested marketplace, we knew that it was going to take more than just a great online campaign to achieve the cut through we were after. Whilst we were developing the campaign ideas, we began thinking about a simple but highly shareable app that could support the Snapped online media, but could also become a standalone permanent feature on the Crime &amp; Investigation Network® Facebook page once the campaign was over.</p>
<p><strong>From good to great</strong><br />
The idea that took the campaign from good to great was Crime &amp; Investigation Network® <a title="Visit Mugshot Maker app" href="http://www.facebook.com/CrimeInvestigationUK#!/CrimeInvestigationUK?sk=app_195322983863428" target="_blank">Mugshot Maker app</a>. Simply put, followers of Crime &amp; Investigation Network® could take photos of themselves, friends and family and superimpose them to create their very own bespoke ‘mugshots’.<br />
We knew the app would live or die on the functionality, so we worked hard to make it as simple and intuitive as possible. Users could upload photos, choose from their Facebook albums or take a photo with their webcam and drop it into a ‘face frame’, where the image could be lined up and tweaked using bespoke editing tools. The next stage was to choose a body for the face to go on. We developed a rogues’ gallery of villainous characters and then the image was ready to be shared online.</p>

<p><strong>&#8230;That’s not all folks!</strong><br />
Alongside the Mugshot Maker, we developed a wide range of innovative media for the Snapped online campaign, including traditional banners with countdown-to-show functionality, dynamic banners that served time-sensitive transmission information to expandable banners, video MPUs, site takeovers and skins and an interactive Facebook landing page.</p>
<p><strong>The Results</strong><br />
The campaign was a massive success for Crime &amp; Investigation Network® and the show achieved great viewer numbers. Over the course of the Snapped campaign, Facebook fans increased by 100% from 9,000 to over 18,000.<br />
Due to the popularioty of the the MugShot Maker app, it has been permanently installed on Crime &amp; Investigation Network® Facebook page. We recently passed the 1,400 mark for pictures created using the app.</p>
<p>The MugShot Maker has also had 100% positive sentiment. Here&#8217;s a sample of some of the comments:</p>

The way they adapted the TV creative to make it work brilliantly online along with the thinking and execution of the Mugshot Maker app made the campaign a big hit with our viewers and drove some serious social media numbers too.”</p>

<p>Great advertising is everywhere; from massive billboards on roadsides and high streets, slick 30 second lifestyle lessons splashed across the TV to expanding flash-goodness on your computer right down to teeny tiny mini-verts on your smartphone. No matter the brand or format, all these advertising campaigns start with a singular idea &#8211; and those ideas have to start somewhere. But where?</p>
<p>In the hands of the humble little scamp.</p>
<p>&#8216;But what are scamps?&#8217; I hear all you non-designers cry. Or perhaps delicious deep fried <a title="Mmmm...delicious scampi" href="http://www.thefishsociety.co.uk/fish-detail_Breaded-Scampi_0_601_0_6.html" target="_blank">crayfish tail snacks</a>? No and No. Think of them as line-drawn doodles that really mean something. They are creative concepts in their underwear; a rough diamond of an idea before it&#8217;s been cut and polished by the design squad and forged into precious digital greatness by our dev ninjas.</p>
<p>Scamps are integral to what we do at Clicked Towers. We use them to help our clients visualise our big ideas. Whether we&#8217;re developing ad campaigns, promotions or web builds, we use scamps everywhere &#8211; in fact, you can&#8217;t chuck a clicky-pencil here without hitting a scamp (or a developer). In our experience, the big advantage of showing a client black and white hand-drawn scamps over <a title="Check out this colourful mood board" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/judithvdoorn/6219491091/sizes/l/in/photostream/" target="_blank">colourful mood boards</a> is that the focus of the conversation stays on the concept and is not distracted or diluted by the minutiae of a mood board&#8217;s visual style or font choices. Because being distracted by details is the way that big ideas get lost, and we&#8217;ve witnessed many a great idea fall by the wayside because of a mood board&#8217;s erroneous colour or errant font. RIP great ideas, RIP.</p>
<p>So that&#8217;s stage one &#8216;scampage&#8217; covered, but their use is far from over. Once a client is happy with the big idea and we know how it&#8217;ll be rolled out across various formats, the winning scamp is used as the basis for the design phase as well as helping to inform any wireframing that we do subsequently. It&#8217;s only then that we wave goodbye to the brave little scamp that started it all, sending it off to scamp heaven (also known as the recycling bin).</p>
<p>So next time you see an advert on the street, on your TV, mobile or online, spare a thought for the plucky wee scamp that started it all. Without it, advertising would be lost in the details.</p>

<p>We&#8217;re pleased to announce that our very own Kat Murray-Clark has received a commendation from <a title="Visit YCN's Student Awards" href="http://awards.ycnonline.com/student/" target="_blank">YCN &#8211; The Young Creative Network</a>. The YCN competition uses live briefs developed by brands, charities and organisations to highlight emerging creative talent. Each commended entry is featured in the YCN Student Annual, an illustrated book distributed to schools and universities across the country and throughout the creative industry.</p>
<p>Kat&#8217;s commendation was earned for her response to a brief set by <a title="Visit Fairtrade" href="http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/" target="_blank">Fairtrade</a>. The challenge was to create a short film promoting the brand to people who, although interested in Fairtrade issues, knew very little about the actual workings of the organisation. She developed a fictional character inspired by &#8220;true life tales&#8221; on the Fairtrade website and told the story of how one person&#8217;s life has been affected by Fairtrade, explaining how the organisation works to ensure producers are paid fair prices, whilst also providing a premium which is invested by the communities to improve the lives of everyone involved.</p>
<p>The YCN ceremony was recently held at <a title="Check out Shoreditch Town Hall" href="http://www.shoreditchtownhall.org.uk/gallery.html" target="_blank">Shoreditch Town Hall</a>, and surrounded by sponsored beer bottles and tiny beetroot canapes, she received her award.</p>
<p>Well done Kat &#8211; we&#8217;re very proud!</p>
